GetFoldersize 3.0.1

GetFoldersize size is a portable tool to determine the size of folders and sub-folders on your hard drive. Determine which programs are taking up your hard disk space. For each folder, you can display the total file size and the number of files and subfolders in the folder. Features: Freeware for private and commercial use; Determine the size of folders and sub-folders on drives, media storages, CD/DVDs, network shares. Fast scan algorithm; Scan file and folder paths with an overall length of up to 32,000 characters and file and folder names containing Unicode characters. No installation is required.

This is the portable edition of GetFoldersize, a simple-to-use software application designed to calculate the size of all folders on your computer, in order to determine the files which take up the most space.

Since installation is not a prerequisite, you can drop the program files in any part of the hard disk and just click the executable to run.

There is also the possibility to save GetFoldersize to a USB flash drive or similar removable storage unit, in order to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no previous installers.

What's more, the app does not create new entries in the Windows registry or Start menu. However, it does create a log file automatically in the root location.

The main application window seems cluttered, so it may take novices a while to figure it out. You can get started by selecting a drive to scan its folders.

Their entries are listed along with their size, percent (occupied space), as well as total containing files and folders, and they can be grouped by taking into account any of these criteria.

Clicking a folder reveals its containing files, and you can use a search function to locate a particular item. Plus, you can view a list with the largest files from a selected folder, hard links or junctions.

Meanwhile, the right side of the main frame holds all the drives and their size, total, free and used size, percent of free and used size, name, file system and type.

As far as interface customization options are concerned, it is possible to increase or decrease the font size, change the font and UI language, and so on. All program activity is recorded to a log file, whose contents include any errors (e.g. file access errors).

GetFoldersize carries out a drive scanning job pretty quickly while using low CPU and RAM.  Although it may appear difficult to work with, the app integrates simple options for all user groups.
